Godavari River: The Godavari River rises from a place near Nashik in Maharashtra, which is at the elevation of 1,465 km. It flows nearly around 1,465 km before falling to Bay of Bengal. The Parvara, the Purna, the Manjra, the Penganga, the Wardha, the Wainganga, the Indravati and the Kolab are the major tributaries of the river. Godavari Basin extends over an area of 312,812 km in five states, which is nearly 9.5% of the total geographical area of the country. 'Vishnupuri Prakalp', Asia's largest Lift irrigation project is constructed on the river just 5 km away from Nanded city.

The Ghataprabha, the Malaprabha, the Bhima, the Tungabhadra and the Musik are the principal tributaries joining Krishna. Krishna Basin extends over in three states with an area of 258,948 km2, which is nearly 8% of the total geographical area of the country.
